About

Annelise Parham

Annelise Parham is a daughter, sister, spouse, mother, and writer of African American, German, and Irish descent. She writes as she lives—at the intersection of race, class, and culture.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in Cultural Anthropology from New York University and a master’s degree in Business from MIT Sloan. Before turning to writing full time in 2023, Annelise spent more than a decade building a career in corporate biotechnology.

Much of Annelise’s writing examines the often-unseen realities of living alongside loved ones with serious mental illness. She explores the emotional landscape of caregiving, the quiet resilience of family members, the grief and ambiguity that accompany chronic mental illness, and the ways those experiences reshape identity, relationships, and hope. Through deeply personal storytelling, she seeks to bring compassion and visibility to families whose stories are too often lived in silence.

Her work has appeared in The New York Times, and she is currently at work on her first memoir.

After a lifetime spent searching for a place that feels like home, Annelise has found one in Midcoast Maine, where she lives with her husband, their two children, and the family’s Collie.
